Chakra is a Hindu word; it means 'wheel.'
Chakras have been called vortexes, points of swirling energy, and subtle energy centers. Chakras regulate all parts of the body systems. They affect our mood, our energy, and affect our health.
The chakra system runs along energetic pathways called nadis, vertical channels central to the core of each of our individualities. There are seven main chakras. Our chakras start at the base of the spine and move upward to the top of the head. Each chakra is associated with a different organ system. In addition to impacting our emotions, thoughts, attitudes, and belief systems, when our chakras are balanced and in alignment, the body systems flow smoothly. But when one or more systems become blocked or out of alignment because of stress, physical strain, unresolved trauma, or lack of rest, it can cause serious issues such as physical and even spiritual illnesses.
There are many different ways to balance your chakras, such as meditating, reiki, crystals, yoga, essential oil's and herbs, just to name a few. Having balanced, aligned, and unblocked chakras can support an even flow of physical, emotional, and spiritual energy.
Your first chakra is the root chakra. It is located at the base of the spine and is associated with the color red. Having the root chakra in balance is what causes us to feel grounded, safe, and secure. It can become blocked if you feel threatened. You can tell when the root chakra is out of alignment from feeling anxious, scared, or have trouble concentrating.
The second chakra is the sacral chakra. It is located in the middle of the abdomen and is associated with the color orange. The sacral chakra affects our creative energy as well as our sexual energy. If this chakra is blocked, we can likely have sexual issues, struggling to experience pleasure in life all together, feeling bored, or addiction issues.
The third chakra is the solar plexus chakra located at the top of the abdomen and associated with the color yellow. When the solar plexus is out of balance, we can have low self-esteem, feeling not good enough, and no confidence.
The fourth chakra is the heart chakra. It is located at the center of the chest and is associated with the color green. This chakra is intimately connected love and to feeling empathy and compassion. When the heart chakra is out of balance, it's contributed to having experienced heartbreak, or abandonment, or are grieving the loss of a loved one.
The fifth chakra is the throat chakra. It is located in the throat and is associated with the color blue. This chakra can become out of balance when we have been shut down in our attempts to express our needs.
The sixth chakra is the third eye chakra. It is located at the center of the brow and is associated with the color violet. This chakra is a powerful energy source because it has to do with our intuition, which is believed to connect to the Divine. This chakra can become out of balance when we have been led to believe that our ideas are not valid or when our gut feelings, and sense of truth, have not been accepted by others. We often feel hopeless, and we lack trust in our ability to make reliable decisions when our third eye chakra is unbalanced.
The seventh chakra is the crown chakra. It is located at the crown of the head and is associated with the color white. The crown chakra is our connection to the Divine. When the crown chakra is unbalanced, we doubt ourselves and our purpose. It can cause depression and feelings of self-doubt.
