Strategies For The Vulnerable Empath: Insights from Psychic Shira

Being empathic, you are already more than a small percentage of a chameleon! When you feel overwhelmed, you can blend in with the wallpaper and take a breather. If that is not working for you, for it is little more than a bandaid to your over-stimulated psyche, there is more than can be done! Before we get to the list of remedies, let's look at the symptoms of being overcome by the energies and mindsets around you.

1. You are excessively tired mentally after socializing.

2. You have physical symptoms: It is not uncommon to have a migraine or stress headache in an uncomfortable or intense environment.

3. You feel anxious or edgy.

4. You shut down at the thought of communicating with anyone.

5. You stop making plans ahead of time, seeing how you feel instead of closer to the commitment date.

6. You have issues with insomnia.

7. You feel out of sync with those around you.

8. You have to push yourself out of bed in the morning.

9. Your patience has ebbed down to nearly zero.

10. You avoid people that you see in public that you know rather than interact with them. You are most assuredly empathic.

11. You may feel drawn for drinking or using substances to calm your emotional state.

Here are some of my favorite strategies to prevent Empathic Burnout:

STRATEGY ONE

Take time to meditate and decompress each day. Bookend it having a morning and evening ritual. Review your day, actively surrender, and let the negative emotions free. Empaths are wired to clear; inhale, cleansing energy, and exhale any feelings or emotions that you are holding from your environment or those around you. Visualize a pipe running into the earth through the sole of your feet with every exhalation. Do this several times per day until you feel clear.

STRATEGY TWO

Walk and offer yourself a steam valve for relief: My daughter goes to the local gym and get on the treadmill and lifts weights. Not only does she feel better, but she is more fit!

STRATEGY THREE

Eat more healthfully: Your body will have the fuel it needs to stay healthier. Love yourself enough to feed your body correctly. Check with your doctor, herbalist/acupuncturist, or naturopath. Ask for their suggestions.

STRATEGY FOUR

Smile and laugh: Laughter is good medicine to lighten the mood. Watch a comedy film or spend time with friends with lighthearted activities. You can even have a Zoom board game night together. Make it fun and keep the levity flowing. You will feel tremendously better.

STRATEGY FIVE

Work with community outreach: Get outside the bounds of your feelings. Putting energy and effort into a community group that aides those in need will empower you and those you are helping.

STRATEGY SIX

Establish times when you refrain from watching or listening to the news; With things changing so quickly, it can easily set your nerves on edge. Listen to healing music, and consciously step away from the external stress.

STRATEGY SEVEN

Spend time with your beloved children and animals: They are feeling your anxiety, too! Spending loving time together keeps your family close and helps to lower blood pressure and alleviate physical aches and pains.

STRATEGY EIGHT

Have a gratitude board: Write down your blessings of the day. At the end of the week, you will see all the serendipitous moments you have experienced. It keeps your focus on staying loving, grounded, and joyful.

STRATEGY NINE

When you experience a difficult person or situation, ask blessings or pray for them: Rather than let resentment accrue, send unconditional love and forgiveness. This does not mean that you trust them in the future. Sending love and compassion in the face of malice nullifies any connection between you. You can stay strong, healthy, happy, joyful, clear, and grounded. I know you can!

STRATEGY TEN
