I love to paint, draw, sketch, and create. I am a regular attendee of the local paint and sip classes, tonic water with a twist, and letting my inner artist take the reins! I recently painted on my office wall, "Love grows here." with flowers and branches surrounding it. Love is like a garden requiring weeding, watering, nourishment, and periods where it can become what it is meant to be.
In a garden, like a family, plants work together in synergy and are not hindered by the fears, stipulations, and conditions set forth by others. When they are planted together, the wise gardener knows to give enough room between flowers for them to spread their petals and shine. In a family home, all too often you and I get hooked into the same jobs and roles, Mom does the cooking and cleaning, Dad mows the lawn, Junior takes out the trash, Sis loads the dishwasher or washes the dishes. Instead, try rotating the jobs, so everyone is well-rounded and feeling free of gender assigned tasks and home maintenance.
In my own home, I do it all, fix the roof, maintain the lawn, cook dinner, wash dishes, take out the trash, pick up the mail, pay the bills, but I have the luxury of being on my own with only the dogs to consider. I like the feeling of being able to do everything from an oil change to making Crepes Suzette! I am not stuck in any particular task, and I love it. My home is my nest and a place where my most considerable freedom is expressed. Family in its configuration can be smothering, or liberating.
Giving each other permission for self-expression, personal growth, and a chance to step up and contribute to the running and happiness of the home is a balanced perspective. Having a home where everyone who enters feels the warm and loving connection, the positive communication, respect, kindness, and generosity of spirit is a gift to any neighborhood or community.
Having a home that is the hub of the community is the intentional act of loving respect for yourself and others. Love Grows Here. I love the energy that it transmits, a simply stated ideal, with magnetism and sparkle. It represents the highest of my personal values, which is family-centric. Chosen family, biological family, in-laws, and friends of friends are welcome. The only rule I have? Leave it better than you found it.
