10 Useful Tips On Writing Affirmations From Real Psychics

Figure out what negative thoughts you have that you want to reverse.

The first step before sitting down to write your affirmations is to figure out what negative thought patterns and behaviors you want to work on releasing. This may seem like a light and breezy step, but your subconscious mind is always trying to protect us from change. The subconscious mind still wants to keep things status quo, which may or may not be in our best interest. Journalling regularly can help you see patterns. You may wish to speak with other friends and family members who are willing and able, to be honest with you about what they think you need to change. You can also seek help from a third party like a counselor to get perspective from psychics with online psychic readings and psychic mediumship.

Focus on what you want and not what you don't.

When we focus on what we want positively, we bring that into our life. If we word things in our affirmations in such a negative way, we will not reverse anything. We may even be doing more harm by amplifying. For example, don't write an affirmation that says I no longer focus on the negative as your subconscious will read that as I focus on the negative. The better way to reword that is I focus on the positive. Another way to reword that is I choose to focus on the positive. You may want to follow up on the statement with the statement I let go and relax as that is a way positive way to let go of the negativity that focuses on what you want instead of what you don't.

Consider writing incremental ones so you can incorporate real change.

It takes 90 days of consistent and dedicated use of affirmations to have had a long-lasting effect. In some cases, it may take up to 6 months to a year. The keys being consistent usage. If you don't practice every day, that is the subconscious mind's way of fighting change. To change, you are in a war with your subconscious mind as it always wants to keep things status quo.

One way to subvert this is to make incremental changes when you are ready. You can word your affirmations so that they are slightly revised when you are prepared for them.

Starting your affirmations with the phrase Every day is one way to be incremental. It suggests that every day you are adding this to your mind, but not in a way that gives you your sense of time. For example, when you say Every day, I choose to let go the statement suggests you are letting go a little bit over time rather than all at once. The subconscious mind will allow small changes, and every day these changes will build-up to fully letting go.

You can also say things like when I choose and then shift to I choose so that it prepares your subconscious mind to choose.

For example, in the first 30 days: When I choose to let go, I will be ready. For the next 30 days: I choose to let go because I am ready. And the next 30 days: I let go. I am free.

Be brief.

Be as concise and to the point as possible. The subconscious mind prefers easy and will listen to easy as this is our inner child at heart. It doesn't need complicated sentence structures. It needs simplicity.

Vary your sentence structure.

If you're writing more than three affirmations for whatever you're working on, make sure you vary the structure of how it starts. Not every sentence should begin with "I." The reason behind this is that it helps the subconscious mind understand that even though you are making changes within, there is still a world around us. You need to experience both a feeling of change as well as seeing the outer world with new eyes. Change needs to feel reciprocal.

For example, here is one statement and a follow-up statement that vary the structure and reinforce:

I feel supported.

The Universe supports me.

Don't tackle too many issues at once.

Feel free to write as many affirmations as you want, but try and focus on one issue. That issue may or may not be complicated, but realize that change is hard and if you focus on too many topics that your mind will resist that. Be smart and hone down on the one issue that is most troublesome for you and work on that. It's even possible that working on this one issue will have a positive rippling effect, and other issues will resolve without you having to address it. For instance, if you focus on self-esteem, you may inadvertently help yourself lose weight and resolve relationship issues at the same time.

Stay in the present tense.

I am loved is a much stronger and more real statement than I used to be loved. When we use the past tense, we dwell and focus on what we no longer have. This is not what we want. The present tense also forces us to focus on the now and be present. When we are present in our lives, we are open to change to happen because that is the natural flow of life.

For incremental changes, it is okay to write future tense for some of your affirmations. For instance, I will gradually becomes I am such as in the above where we went from when I will be ready into I am ready.

Write them out a few times to see how they feel.

After you've written your affirmations, write them over and over again to see how they feel. If you feel resistance in writing them out, ask yourself why and if you're pushing too much change too fast. Sometimes our opposition is our way of telling ourselves to slow down. Consider how then you can make change more incremental, or maybe we are focusing on too many issues at once.

Say them out loud a few times to hear how they feel.

Our goal is to say them out loud so that our subconscious mind hears our voice and replaces it with our own words and overpowers any other memories or sounds we understand that hold us back in negative patterns. Say your affirmations out loud so you can hear how they feel in the body. Notice any resistance or any uplifting feelings. It may even feel a bit of both. If you feel the need to revise them after saying them out loud, also write them out again before saying them out loud. This may seem time-consuming, but you will be thankful for the time you're taking now 3-6 months from now.

For inspiration, look at other affirmations and affirmation books.

There are many books written about the healing effect affirmations have and how powerful they can be. Look for inspiration from other spiritual writers and leaders. Seek out advice from hypnotherapists and real psychics who use them in their daily spiritual practices. There are many support groups, forums, and counseling groups that can assist you with writing affirmations. A psychic keen on helping you evolve spiritually can also assist you in writing your affirmations.
