Demystifying Reiki : Insights from Psychic Shira

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is an energy healing technique that is mentioned frequently. It may seem mysterious if you are not acquainted with it. I want to break it down into easily digestible components so you can see why it has become one of the most popular holistic healing methods around the globe. 

What does the name Reiki mean? 

Universal Life Force.

While that may sound esoteric and floating in the cosmos, it is, in fact, about connecting to the cells of your body. Even just one cell changing causes a chain reaction healing! Why does one cell in the body activate the healing process? Each cell has a generating power source of its own, ATP or Adenosine Triphosphate. This is a structure that even looks like a miniature power grid microscopically. Pretty impressive, That is only ONE cell, my friends!

Why does Reiki work? 

Reiki works as it is based on quantum healing.

Quantum's definition: A moderate quantity of energy proportional in magnitude to the frequency of the radiation it represents. Let's get back to the activation of the cell for a moment. The body responds to the energy and intention of the Reiki Practitioner or Master Teacher.

In order to become a Reiki Practitioner or Reiki Master Teacher, you must go through the training, attunements, and certifications. There are mandatory complimentary sessions in many programs that must be completed before receiving your certificate and documentation. Whether distance healing or in person, these sessions must be documented with direct and verbatim feedback from the clients. These remain anonymous are only for proof of having done the necessary number of sessions. 

Why do I have to give my permission for the Reiki healing session before receiving it? 

Without your consent, self-created barriers will block you from receiving the full benefit of your Reiki Session. Are there different types of Reiki? Yes, there are a plethora of differentiated systems. Reiki stems from Dr. Mikao Ususi from Japan, and then through Mrs. Takata out of Hawaii in the United States. The offshoots of Reiki Systems are all based on the same basic principles. It is the modalities that differ.

For instance, ASMR (Autonomic Sensory Muscular Response) is very soft and quiet with intentional light sounds, Perfect for trauma recovery, and people who experience chronic depression. This has been around since 2012, and it is one of my favorite calming modalities.

Sound Healing and Reiki are often combined employing Tibetan Singing Bowls, Native American Flute, and soft/gentle rattles. I am certified in 13 different Reiki Systems and am currently enrolled in the ASMR coursework. I will keep you updated on my projected date of completion. Reiki is love.
