Why Embracing Death Awareness Is Healthier, Just Ask a Medium

You may have heard that millennials are embracing the concept of death with positivity rather than avoidance more than previous generations. Some are already planning their own funerals even though they are still in their twenties with no terminal illness. Ideas range from out of the traditional services to organic burial pods to being turned into diamonds to being shot out into space.

For the older generations, there is a general reluctance to speak about, let alone plan, their funerals, and what will happen to their earthly possessions. Embracing our mortality can be a positive growth experience if we are using it to let go of fears and live a more mindful and wholehearted existence in our present.

What is Death Awareness?

Death Awareness is not about cultivating a morbid obsession with death and how people die. It is the exact opposite, for it is meant to release our fears of death by becoming more conscious of the life we are living and how that our physical existence will someday end.

The phrase death awareness comes from the Buddhist practice called "maranasati," which translates to death awareness. It is the idea that if we are to accept uncertainty as a common denominator in our lives and that in by doing so, we free ourselves to change our lives for the better. We open ourselves up to the existential crisis and spiritual emergency of being the best person we can be in this moment and moving forward. Our decisions then take a healthier shape as we honor our lives in the now and to the end of our physical existence.

How do I become more positive about the idea of dying someday?

At the center of this is the idea that we need to live in the present and let go of our obsession for certainty. When we do this, we let go of many of the worries, fears, and anxieties that will plague our existence, if we allow them. Being aware that we are mortal makes us behave as if tomorrow is our last day and to live every day in gratitude, rather than being ungrateful for everything we have in our lives and everyone in them.

Millennials are taking charge of their deaths by pre-planning their funeral. This gives people a sense of control over their mortality and peace of mind in their daily lives. If you know how people will honor your life, then it helps you to live the life you already have. It also gives people a better sense of how to shape their lives and provide them with purpose. If you feel like you lack meaning in your life, then planning your funeral might help you to deeply consider your purpose and reshape your life accordingly before it is too late.

On the opposite of this, spend a day doing nothing that is a planned activity. Be completely spontaneous, and see how that makes you feel. The more you live in the moment and embrace each moment as new, you will learn to exercise your muscles of perseverance. You will learn how to adapt more quickly, breathe more naturally, and feel lighter all over. Learning to live in the moment will help you accept that life is uncertain and to go with the flow as a mantra and as a positive way of living your life.

You can also take charge of your fears and explore what makes you afraid about death. Speak with people who have lost loved ones. Ask about their grief and what they did as a part of the grieving process. Then, ask yourself, while you are planning your funeral, how can you make it easier for people who are grieving you when you are gone? This is a hard question as it requires you to dig deep within yourself as well as step into the shoes of the people you love. Seeing things from the other side will help you ease into your uncertainty and gradually help you to shift, making positive changes in your present life as well. If you consider the legacy you want to leave in a way that is more spiritually-minded than mundane, you will create a meaningful life in the present based on that motivation to be your best self for you and your loved ones.

How can psychics and mediums help me with my fears of death?

Psychics and psychic mediums work with the spiritual realm and are acquainted with both the living and the dead. Mediumship works specifically with those who have passed on from our physical existence. Not all real psychics are mediums, though, but they do offer insights into how to live a purposeful life and how to deal with tragedy and loss. A psychic's ability to empathize with clients and tune in to their emotional needs helps to provide proper guidance on how to make better life decisions, and that includes how to deal with fears and anxiety over mortality and living with uncertainty. Experiencing a few online psychic readings to work through these issues may clear up any worries you have and help you to get perspective on the meaning of your life and how to live it to its' fullest before it's too late.
